This year Seville took top place in Lonely Planet’s annual ‘Best in Travel’ issue, and we were not surprised.
It’s one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Europe. This is due to the Andalusian capital’s Moorish architecture, world-renowned gastronomy, vibrant culture and famous festivals. Combined with the ideal Mediterranean climate and friendly locals, this city is not to miss.
Seville is home to more than the famous orange trees from which marmalade is made. It is also the birthplace of some of the greatest artists, flamenco dancers, singers and bullfighters in Spanish history. In fact, their art and legacy is present in every street of the city. Seville houses the largest Gothic cathedral in the world as well as La Giralda. This mosque minaret turned bell tower which is one of Andalusia’s most iconic symbols. La Giralda presides over the Barrio Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter composed of narrow cobbled streets. Indeed, the quarter’s quiet squares resound with legends and cultural heritage.
Situated beside the cathedral, the royal palace ‘Real Alcázar’ is regarded as one of the most spectacular examples of Mudéjar architecture in the Iberian Peninsula. Moreover, many recognise it as one of the filming locations of Game of Thrones. A popular backdrop for films, Seville’s Plaza España also featured as City of Theed in Star Wars – Attack of the Clones.
In addition to tourism, the city of Seville has become one of Europe’s top MICE top business destinations. This is due to the city’s outstanding infrastructure. Notably, the largest congress centre in Spain, FIBES, is located in the city. FIBES boasts 3 exhibition halls of 7,200m2 each, two auditoriums, one of which is the largest in Spain. It has over 28,000m2 of outdoor space, numerous exposition halls, multi-purpose conference rooms, a purpose-built fair precinct and various restaurants.
Additionally, Seville is an extremely well-connected city. The high-speed train, AVE, makes the Madrid-Seville trip in only 2.5 hours. Santa Justa station is a mere 15 minute drive from both FIBES and the city centre .San Pablo airport has direct routes to over 50 destinations, and is only 3 km from the congress centre.
Finally, Seville hosts a wide range of hotels, haciendas, apartments and country estates. This makes it the perfect location for you and your guests to delve into Andalusian culture in complete comfort.
